Summer finishes

These summer days have been a good time to spend with family and do the odd craft project. I have enjoyed finishing off a few old ones that have been sitting in the pile for ever.

I managed to finish a Hills n Hollers quilt, but promptly forgot to photograph it before I gave it to some friends as a gift for their wedding. Here is the last image I took of it, but it is covered in basting stitches, and only half stippled. It took four nights to stipple it through my domestic machine and about 1,000m of thread. It was the first queen size quilt I sewed and quilted, and I found that it took a long time, but it wasn’t horrendous. I would do it again!

In a bid to relax and sew whilst the telly was on, I pulled out some more Loulouthi fabric by Anna Maria Horner (my favourite fabric designer) to sew some english paper pieced numbers that will one day make their way onto a cushion.

I also started to sew up some very brightly coloured Michael Miller Couture Cottons fabrics that my husband selected to have made into a quilt for himself. It is completely copied from Ashley, who blogs here. It is very bright, but also incredibly soft. I think I will back it in some Architextures Contour, which is a nice topography print. This will hopefully nod to his passion in life – mountains!

I was cracking on when my sewing machine developed a mind of its own and decided to sew full pelt without me pressing the pedal at all. I think I have managed to fix it, but I have yet to plug it in! Sadly it meant that the piecing of quilts had to stop.

Similar story here, I have part finished a quilt for daughter number two, but awaiting to see if the sewing machine is better! This is a fabric selection from Little Folks, again by AMH. I love this colour palate selection and it is so so so soft!

I have also managed to run out of embroidery thread in the magenta colour I selected for my butterfly embroidery. A trip to Hobby Craft to match the colour is on the cards for some point when I find a spare 5 minutes!

We did manage to spend a good few days with the cousins over my sister-in-laws wedding. It was a great time to be with family and enjoy such a special time together.
